Using Wood Products to Reduce Global Warming
نویسنده
چکیده
■ Carbon storage in forests. In one study, taking “no action” rather than harvesting stored more carbon. ■ Carbon storage considering forests, wood products, and concrete substitution. Collectively a 45-year harvest cycle, wood products and substitution for non-wood products stored more carbon than the “no action” managed forest scenario. ■ Carbon storage in houses. Wood-framed houses store more carbon than steel-framed or concrete-framed houses. ■ Carbon storage in U.S. housing stock. Annual home construction using wood products prevent millions of metric tons of CO 2 from being in the atmosphere.

Life-cycle assessment of flash pyrolysis of wood waste
This work analyzes a process known as flash pyrolysis, which produces bio fuels using biomass for power generation. A life-cycle assessment of flash pyrolysis of wood waste was conducted to study whether a flash pyrolysis plant set up locally would be environmentally friendly. The results obtained show that the process of flash pyrolysis of wood waste is in fact environmentally friendly, and th...
متن کاملExploitation of Carbon Energy and the Integrity of Protected Rainforest Areas in Nigeria
Exploitation of fuel wood in pre-colonial Africa did not affect ecological balance. Carbon generated was sunk into living trees in exchange for oxygen. However, the coming of colonialism, industrial revolution, introduction of scientific or industrial forestry and urbanization has substantially altered the balance between exploitation and forest sustainability. The impact of fuel wood exploitat...
متن کاملForest Carbon Sequestration: Some Issues for Forest Investments
A major problem being faced by human society is that the global temperature is believed to be rising due to human activity that releases carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, i.e., global warming. The major culprit is thought to be fossil fuel burning, which is releasing increasing amounts of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The problem of increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide can be addressed a n...

Global warming and temperature rise will have many effects on different sectors, including agriculture, the warming of the earth will increase the rate of evaporation, and consequently the increase in the demand for agricultural products will increase. In this study, in order to monitor the effect of global warming on Mughan Plain wheat, using the LARS-WG model as a relatively inexpensive and a...
متن کاملImpacts of Greenhouse Gas and Particulate Emissions from Woodfuel Production and End-use in Sub-saharan Africa
Household energy in sub-Saharan Africa is largely derived from woodfuels burned in simple stoves with poor combustion characteristics. These devices emit products of incomplete combustion [PICs] that both damage human health and negatively impact the atmospheric radiation budget. We use empirical studies and published emission factors to estimate the pollution associated with production, distri...
